Breathe Your Way to a Better Broadcast (video)

by Ann S. Utterback, Ph.D. on June 22, 2010

Lately it seems like every client I work with asks me about breathing problems.  Either they run out of air when they get on a microphone or you can hear them breathing on air.  All this concern makes me think this week might be a good one to review some basic breathing exercises that can give your voice the energy and effectiveness it needs.

This video was done as an interview for the International Journalists’ Network and was posted on this blog back in March.  Even if you looked at it then, check it out again to give yourself this quick refresher.  If it’s new to you, you’ll learn some valuable exercises for better breathing.

Great video Ann – almost as good as your lessons! The more I think about all the ways we use our voice – at work, online, in public – the more I realize knowing how to use your voice is a major “force multiplier”.

Thanks, Bob. You’re exactly right. Voice is something most people don’t think about but it’s one of the ways listeners evaluate podcasters. The better the voice, the better the podcast.
