I often ask clients to watch a NASCAR race to hear what good vocal projection sounds like. When a pit reporter has to speak over the roar of 40+ car engines going 200 m.p.h., you can bet they need to use excellent vocal projection, and most of them do!
Vocal projection is how far the sound you create travels when it leaves your mouth. It’s quite different from volume. You can think of projection as being a laser beam and volume the beam of a flashlight. One is tight and focused while one is diffused.
